Flushing Away The Bad Memories

I think the worst type of bad memories are those that were self-inflicted. Memories of regret, mistakes, things we said or did, or didn’t say or do, that caused hurt or harm to someone else. Even the little things, that just cause you to cringe for a moment, are bad memories that just won’t flush.

I’ve learned, but am not always good at it (yet), that it’s important to forgive ourselves. We must forgive others, so let’s also be kind to ourselves. Saying this from a Christian perspective though – the first priority when dealing with mishaps and mistakes is to go to Jesus, confess the thing sincerely, repent, pray for cleansing, healing, and the strength to get right back up and get going again.

No time for condemnation, if forgiveness has been sought and received through Christ. We must keep going.

It’s true – the Holy Spirit brings conviction, but the enemy brings condemnation. Big difference.

I may not be able to properly “flush” the mistakes away, but Jesus can. On top of everything else He is – physician, counselor, teacher, friend, and all the things – He might also be a very good plumber, for our unflushable deeds.

Is that an absolutely horrible analogy? I’m sorry. I never claimed to always use good taste in my online stuff. Clean, yes, but sometimes on the tacky side.

sorry
